The Riddle of Cancer

چکیده
The controversy that results seems to stem not from different definitions of "consciousness," as some of the participants suggest, but rather from a lack of agreement upon the meaning of "explain." Transcripts of a hypnoanalytic treatment session and of Beck's movie, "Unconscious Motivation," are used by Lewis R. Wolberg to illustrate "Hypnotic Phenomena." Marcel Monnier summarizes the changes in EEG pattern that correspond to different states of consciousness and attention, and outlines the antagonistic subcortical systems that regulate consciousness. This book shares the virtues and faults of the previous volumes of this series. The papers are interesting, but most of the data reported are available elsewhere; the discussions likewise are interesting, but not so full of brilliant ideas as to demand verbatim publication.

Solution to “the Kuznets Riddle”
S. Kuznets's study that the average propensity to consume is a constant value were nexpected because they denied one of the basic provisions of the Keynesian theory. This fact was called "the riddle of Kuznets". F. Modigliani and M. Friedman, using the hypothesis of the life cycle and the concept of constant income, proposed two options that explain its solution. But models should not explain,...
متن کاملThe Riddle of Economic Diplomacy in the Foreign Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Bill Clinton, the ex-president of the United States of America at the end of his two presidency period stated that one of his most important successes was the link between internal economy and the foreign policy of the country. Some general conclusions can be derived from this statement, which include the following and which make the hypotheses of this article: 1- Economic relations are necess...
متن کاملThe RIDDLE Syndrome Protein Mediates a Ubiquitin-Dependent Signaling Cascade at Sites of DNA Damage
The biological response to DNA double-strand breaks acts to preserve genome integrity. Individuals bearing inactivating mutations in components of this response exhibit clinical symptoms that include cellular radiosensitivity, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. The archetype for such disorders is Ataxia-Telangiectasia caused by biallelic mutation in ATM, a central component of the DNA...
متن کاملRNF168 and USP10 regulate topoisomerase IIα function via opposing effects on its ubiquitylation
Topoisomerase IIα (TOP2α) is essential for chromosomal condensation and segregation, as well as genomic integrity. Here we report that RNF168, an E3 ligase mutated in the human RIDDLE syndrome, interacts with TOP2α and mediates its ubiquitylation. RNF168 deficiency impairs decatenation activity of TOP2α and promotes mitotic abnormalities and defective chromosomal segregation. Our data also indi...
متن کاملGenomic Instability, Defective Spermatogenesis, Immunodeficiency, and Cancer in a Mouse Model of the RIDDLE Syndrome
Eukaryotic cells have evolved to use complex pathways for DNA damage signaling and repair to maintain genomic integrity. RNF168 is a novel E3 ligase that functions downstream of ATM,γ-H2A.X, MDC1, and RNF8. It has been shown to ubiquitylate histone H2A and to facilitate the recruitment of other DNA damage response proteins, including 53BP1, to sites of DNA break. In addition, RNF168 mutations h...
متن کاملSolving the Wise Mountain Man Riddle with Answer Set Programming
This paper describes an exercise in the formalization of common-sense with Answer Set Programming aimed at solving an interesting riddle, whose solution is not obvious to many people. Solving the riddle requires a considerable amount of common-sense knowledge and sophisticated knowledge representation and reasoning techniques, including planning and adversarial reasoning. Most importantly, the ...
